Three Ways to Easily Embed a PDF in Squarespace 7.1

You’ve just created a fabulous document you know your customers and collectors will find useful, and you want to make it available as a free download on your Squarespace website, but you’re not sure how. Here is a step-by-step guide to embedding a PDF document in Squarespace 7.1.

There are three ways to go about it. You can link the document from an image, from a button, or from a line of text. In the video, I’ll go over all three in about 5 minutes!

A step-by-step guide to embedding a PDF in Squarespace 7.1. (5 Mins).

Once you’ve embedded your PDF on your site, you have two options.

1) You can make the page and the PDF download free and available to the general public. If you choose this option, there is nothing more you need to do. Simply hit “publish.”

2) You can make it available only to people who have the link to that page. For example, you might choose to share that link with your subscribers in an email, or followers via DM. In this case, you’ll need to take one additional step, which is to ‘hide’ that page from search engines.

To hide a page from search engines:

  • Look for the specific page under the “pages” menu in Squarespace.

  • In the example below, the page is called “Links.” Click on the cog wheel to the right of your page title.

  • Next, click on “SEO” (see example below)

  • Tog “Hide Page from Search Results” to the ON setting.

  • You’re done!

Can you see how this would be helpful to delivering something of extra value to your audience? Think of documents you can create that answer a question your audience is already asking about. For artists, this can include everything from a framing guide, to a look book, or a brochure for a specific series or collection of works. The sky is the limit. Have fun with it, and also use it as an incentive to pull more people into your orbit!
