Have you ever noticed that tiny image in your browser tab when you visit a website? That is a browser icon, which is also called a favicon! A favicon is a small, square image that represents your website. It may be small, but its impact is mighty. It not only appears in your site’s browser tab, but also shows up in bookmarks, and search results, making it an essential branding element. A well-designed favicon enhances brand recognition, improves user experience, and adds a professional touch to your website.
Squarespace has specific requirements for browser icons, so even if you have a logo, you may need to resize it or design something specifically for this purpose. If you don't already have a favicon graphic, we recommend using Canva, a user-friendly online design tool.

How to create a custom web browser graphic for free inside Canva:
Visit Canva's website (www.canva.com) and sign up or log in to your account. Please note: you can use the free version of Canva.
Click on "Create a design" and choose the "Custom dimensions" option.
Enter the dimensions of 300 pixels by 300 pixels to ensure the highest quality favicon.
Use Canva's design features to create a unique and visually appealing favicon that aligns with your brand.
Keep it simple, recognizable, and consistent with your brand.
Use a high-quality graphic, and consider the impact at different sizes (once published, your favicon will display at 16 × 16 pixels, so a logo may not be the best thing to use here).
Usually, you can opt to use your initials or a simple graphic.
Use a background and foreground color with a lot of contrast. Keep it simple!
After finalizing your design in Canva, click on the "Download" button and select the PNG file format.
How to upload your browser icon in Squarespace 7.1
Log in to your Squarespace account and navigate to the dashboard.
In the dashboard, click on "Design" and then select "Browser Icon"
In the browser icon panel, click on "Click to upload" to add your new custom favicon graphic.
After the upload is complete, click "Apply" to save your changes.
To preview your customized browser icon, click on the "Preview" arrow in the top-right corner of the Squarespace window. A new tab will open, displaying your website with the updated favicon. Heads up: it sometimes can take a few minutes for the browser icon to be live.
If you're satisfied with the preview, you’re done! If not, rework your design, and upload it to Squarespace using the “Replace” button in the Browser Icon area.
If your favicon is not showing up, make sure it's in the correct file format (PNG), is properly sized, and is not cached.
