Four Inspiring Visual Artist Videos, from Delightful Intros to Engaging Studio Visits

In January of 2021, Contently, an industry authority on content marketing, surveyed their community to find out what they thought their most important content format would be, based on what ‘best aligns with consumer preferences.’ Survey said (in my best game show host voice): “blog posts,” followed closely by “videos.”

Artists, did you catch that? It wasn’t ‘text!’ Blog posts and videos can be a match made in heaven for creatives who thrive on visuals! If you’ve passed on the opportunity to include a blog on your website, or if you’ve let it gather dust, remember that you can use your blog posts as visual journals, or tell ‘stories’ about your work in a visual format.

Create and share videos (and/or images), that briefly introduce your work, your latest project, your process, or your studio, and give your audience a peek into whatever happens to be meaningfully related to your creative life. Have fun with it.

I’ve included links to a few brief artist videos I find really interesting and or appealing. As you come across other artist videos that resonate with you, notice what pulled you in, and see how you might develop a similar approach when you create your own videos.

While the production value of most of these videos is top notch, remember that your videos don’t have to be perfect. Done is better than perfect, so whether you enlist someone to help you, or dust off your mobile phone, challenge yourself to give it a try. Notice these are all about 3 minutes long, or less!

It doesn’t have to be complicated, and it certainly doesn’t have to be staged. Are you up for the challenge? I’d love to see what you create!
